Hawaii
Rocks! is the original, professional rock climbing guide
service in Hawai`i. We were the first operation to offer
this unique opportunity to experience our beautiful
islands and it is our goal to make the world a better
place by introducing you to rock climbing as thrillingly
and safely as possible! By operating a friendly, personalized
guide service, we hope our island residents and visitors
will return year after year. You will notice right away
that we do not use the word "tour" in the
description of our activities. Climb Aloha prefers to
use the word "training" or "course"
to describe our approach and philosophy. Safety and
instruction are emphasized above all during your personalized
experience with us. We know very well that rock climbing
is a completely unique experience that cannot be taken
lightly or treated like a horse back ride or even some
other eco-tourism event. Climbing can be dangerous,
but is also fun and safe with the right training. Climb
Aloha limits group size during all our courses and training
and we take every precaution to minimize impact to the
environment or the climbing community.
Beginners
are our specialty, but we can offer a challenge for
even the expert rock climber. Our mission is to provide
a safe, enjoyable and worthwhile experience to every
person that climbs with us. We appreciate the opportunity
to jump-start your vertical experience and we look forward
to sharing time in the mountains of Hawai`i with you.
Like
no other sport, climbing offers the potential for a
lifetime of rewarding experiences. You will meet fun
and interesting people, visit the world's most beautiful
places, and learn exactly what you're made of. Whether
you are new to the Hawaii Rocks! experience or an old
friend, browse through our brochure of adventure and
climbing courses ? we're
convinced you'll find something that will open new and
exciting doors for you. Set goals for yourself and understand
the value of experience and professional instruction
to help you achieve your vertical ambitions. Self-confidence
and knowledge are power!

COURSE 1

■One-Day Introduction to Rock Climbing & Rappeling |
|
| . |
|
|
|
|
|
This
is a general introduction to rock climbing intended
for people who have little or no climbing experience.
The course is located at Makapu`u Point, offering breathtaking
views of Makapu`u Lighthouse, Makapu`u Bay, and the
entire windward coast. We will start off by demonstrating
proper equipment use and safety concerns, and then you
how to construct anchor and belay systems since they
are the fundamental components of climber safety. We
will demonstrate several rappeling techniques and give
everyone the chance to try each method. Most folks are
a little anxious, but eager to try. We will finish the
"classroom" experience with a clinic on how
to move efficiently over steep, rocky terrain. You will
climb with your legs and use your arms for balance.
The rest of the afternoon will be spent top-rope climbing
so you can develop confidence in the anchor and belay
systems and begin to develop and refine your own climbing
technique. Approximate time: 6-8 hours. |

COURSE 2

|
■Two-Day Introduction to Rock Climbing |
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
A
comprehensive introduction to rock climbing. It is
ideal for people with little or no previous outdoor
climbing experience. Our goal is to help you become
a safe and self-confident climber. The course begins
on Saturday morning and concludes Sunday evening.
DAY
ONE: The first day
of the course will take place exactly as Course #
1.
DAY
TWO: The
second day of the course will take place at the "Jungle"
climbing area located on the North Shore within the
Wai`anae Mountains of O`ahu - offering breathtaking
views of the entire North Shore from Ka`ena Point
to Waimea Bay and beyond. The entire day will be spent
developing and refining your rock climbing style and
technique. Participants will practice the safety precautions
learned from the previous day and will get a chance to top-rope several routes of excellent quality
on the Jungle Wall with ratings beginning at 5.6 and
upward according to your ability and progress during
the day. The latter portion of the day's course will
involve a brief introduction to sport climbing bolted
lead routes with the opportunity to 'second' and simulate
a lead climb. In the afternoon, you will summit a
Jungle multi-pitch route, the only of its kind in
Hawai`i. On the way down, you will practice your rapelling
technique including a 'simul-rap'! Lastly, many North
Shore weekend climbers conclude the day with cold
beer and dinner in the historic town of Hale`iwa,
so be sure to ask your guide where everyone will be
heading that evening.

■Lead
Climbing - Anchor Building & Placing Gear - Advanced
Course |
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
Do
you climb 5.10 on indoor walls or on top rope, but don't
feel ready to lead outdoors? Or have you been seconding
outdoors but get "gripped" when leading? The
secret to lead climbing is having utter confidence in
your gear placements and your ability to craft a solid
belay anchor in any situation. Anchors are the foundation
of climbing safety. This one-day course is a hands-on
clinic to teach you ways to get the most protection
from your gear. Topics will include multiple-point rock
anchors, equalization, advanced belay systems, sport
clipping bolted routes, use of a cordellete and proper
placement of rock protection (spring-loaded camming
devices, nuts, tri-cams, etc.). You will build anchors,
remove anchors, hold simulated falls, and utilize a
variety of belay techniques. The course will take place
at the Mokuleia Main Wall located on the North Shore
within the Wai`anae Mountains of O`ahu - offering breathtaking
views of the entire North Shore from Ka`ena Point to
Waimea Bay and beyond. Approximate time: 8 hours |
